The Everest region is the most famous of trekking spot of Nepal. This is also called Khumbu region which includes Mt. Everest (8,848m), the highest mountain in the world along with many of the world's 8000m peaks such as Makalu, Lhotse and Cho Oyu. The Everest Base Camp trekking is a classic trek which follows in the footsteps of Hillary & Tenzing (climbed in 1953) May 24 ends with an ascent of Kala Patthar (Black Rock) 5,545m for breath-taking and mind-blowing views of Everest. Before accessing Everest Base Camp, the trail follows the Khumbu Glacier with huge ice pinnacles soaring to unbelievable height.
Everest Base camp trekking starts from Lukla after 25-35 min flight from Kathmandu. You start your adventure trip through the Sherpa villages, Buddhist monasteries with distant views of Everest and neighboring Ama Dablam, the most beautiful mountains in the world. A day is spent at Namche Bazar, following the valley of Dudh Koshi (River of Milk). Then, your acclimatization ensures the Everest Base camp and you visit Tengboche monastery before exploring Kala Patthar. After several days, you ascent Kala Patthar which gives the fantastic views of Khumbu Ice Fall and south col as well as the immense South-West of Everest. The highlight for most will be the awe-inspiring views which unfold from the top of Kala Patthar, the chaotic ice sculptures of the Khumbu Glacier, Nuptse and Everest and others many mountains. Everest Base Camp trek can be done during spring, in March to May, as well as crisp autumn months of September to December. Trek ends along with your flightback to Kathmandu.
