Makalu, the fifth highest mountain in the world, was first climbed is 1953 by a French Expedition which the north ridge. Makalu region is one of the most sought after trekking destinations of Nepal. It extends five major ecological zones where you can find the lush, tropical Arun valley, dense forests or rhododendron and fir and alpine meadows that lead to the mighty Barun glacier. Makalu Barun region is rich habitats of flora and fauna. Tropical, sub-tropical, temperate, alpine and sub- alpine plants are found here. Makalu Barun National park is the home to rich variety of wildlife. Makalu Base Camp trekking offers pristine forest, beautiful mountains, plants, animals and simple, warm-hearted people like Tamang, Gurung and Sherpa with their amazing cultures. The nearest air-strip in this region is Tumlingtar and climbs above Arun river. The most favorable time to trek is anytime from October-November and Mach-April when high passes are less likely to be snowed over.
